| Peter Tate Posts: 1 | Subject: The formation of the club It was early 1969, I was trying to decide where to do my post-graduate teaching diploma. I was in my final year at Portsmouth, doing a geography degree ( having started the first college/ university rugby league team in1966. I wanted to get back up North, but alas most of the Universities had already gotten a team. Except Sheffield. So I applied, got a place, then set up a stall next to the rugby union club !! They exclaimed you do not have a team or a ground. To which I replied we will next week. And we even managed to field 2 teams in the first season. Played on the sacred RU ground & attracted Fred Lindop to coach the team. | ||

| John Arnold Posts: 1 | And thank goodness you did Peter. As a member of the inaugural season, I am glad to find this website. I noticed John Hawley in the hall of fame, and remember playing with him streaking through the centre - I hope we can find more of the old lot! | ||
